I don't mess at all with volume settings.
All I do is using pure STE registers to play samples. I actually don't know anything deeper about the Falcon's sound mixing.
But I have to check my DMA code again. It might be that I overwrite Falcon specific settings by accident. The Falcon maps some additional control into the DMA control register IIRC.
